Fig. 1. Magsimus Deluxe at start up. Next, load the tutorial design file as follows: Make the main-menu selection File->Open. In the Open dialog box navigate to the Magsimus Examples folder (../Magsimus/Examples), select the file CelliderTutorialDesign.mus and click open. After the selected file loads your screen should now look like. Fig. 2. (The file CelliderTutorialDesign_Ref.mus which is an exact replica of the one you just loaded is available in the Magsimus Examples folder; you can use this as a back-up in order to re-create the original design if need be). The box where a three-dimensional image of the design is displayed is referred to as the System-view box. Fig. 2. Design example loaded into Magsimus Deluxe Close-ups of some useful areas of the Magsimus user interface are shown in Fig 3. The Design-Manager (Fig. 3a) contains a list in the form of a tree hierarchy that indicates the layout of the design. The root or system node (labeled Cellider tutorial design) is at the top of the hierarchy and represents the whole design. The system consists of three design groups (Group of different types of components, Permanent magnet array group and Field-array group), containing several components within them. A group is simply a means for organizing components of a design (usually) according to their logical functional roles (for example, in a recording read-back design, components making up the read head may be organized into one group, while the storage media may be organized in yet a different group). Fig. 3. Close ups of different parts of the Magsimus Deluxe user interface: (a) Design Manager ; (b) System-display toolbar showing 1- component lock/unlock button, 2 - zoom-full button, 3 - zoom box button, 4 - zoom-last button, 5 - zoom-out button, 6 - rotate button, 7 - perspective-view button, 8 - undo button, 9 - redo button, 10 - show-motion button, 11 - system view drop-down list, 12 - On-display drop-down list, 13 - Help button; (c) short-cut menu in System-view box. The system-display toolbar (Fig. 3b) is used for interactive manipulation of the three-dimensional display of the design in the System- view box. The View box (11) is a drop-down list that allows the selection of the direction (Front, Back, Left etc.) for viewing a design in the System-view box. Right next to the View box is the On display box (12) that allows the selection of individual components and groups that will be displayed in the System-view box. Try out various selections in these two boxes to see the effect they have.
