The external field controls provide the means for applying an external field to a design. To see how a design would respond to a particular external vector field, first un-check the Use field definitions box in this area, fill in the field magnitude and direction (given by the azimuth and polar angle inputs) and press the Run button in the main program toolbar

To define more complicated external field sequences, check the Use field definitions box and press the Edit button to display the dialog box for defining external applied field sequences. Magsimus defines an external field sequence in a general way. This allows the application of vector fields of virtually any complexity. A field sequence is treated as a collection of field legs. A field leg can be of any of the following types:

Single field. A field of fixed magnitude and direction that is applied to the design

Loop field. A closed field excursion applied to the design in a fixed direction of space

Rotation field. One whose direction and magnitude can change

Pulse field. A field of limited duration that is switched between two field amplitudes along a fixed direction
